Rome, March 2, 1977

Interview for Vatican Radio. Recorded on 2 March 1977 and then aired by Vatican Radio 7 April 1977.

A mixture of delicate sweetness and contained sadness, an atmosphere of solemnity invades the soul on remembering what happened that Thursday twenty centuries ago.
God became man. He could do everything. But it was in the logic of love that he, having fulfilledsuch a step in coming from the Trinity to earthly life, would not remain for only 33 years – even if he ledan extraordinary divine life – but would find the way to remain for all centuries to come and to be presentall over the world at the climax of his love: sacrifice and glory, death and resurrection. And he remained.Contrived by his divine fantasy, he invented the Eucharist. It’s his name which reaches the extreme measure.Theresa of Lisieux would say: “Oh Jesus, let me say, in my overflowing gratitude, let me say that your love reached madness….”

Keep Going Forward

Melbourne, February 2, 1982

In February 1982 Chiara was in Australia. She took the cue from two of the typical animals of the continent – the kangaroo and the emu that don’t know how to walk backwards – to encourage her people to always go ahead in living for unity.

Go and learn what this means ...

Rome, May 25, 1981

Every year the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is held in many parts of the world from 18th to 25th January. Elsewhere it is celebrated at Pentecost.
The theme for the Week of Prayer in 2013, based on Micah 6:6-8, is: ‘What does God ask of us?’
The Word of Life for this month explores and comments upon this idea.

Commentary of the Word of Life:

'Go and learn what this means, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice”' (Mt 9,13; cf. Hos 6:6).
